The current makeup trend of a highlighted and contoured face is at the height of it’s popularity in western culture. These quasi-complex techniques have been taught en masse by makeup “gurus” on Youtube and have transcended into the homes of regular women who are looking to achieve the same layered look as their favorite reality stars.
As with any fashion extreme, the pendulum must swing back in the other direction and F/W 15 runway trends showed a lot of bare faces and nude lips. This is the favored look of Harvey Tsao, international makeup artist and ambassador of Chantecaille, a NYC based makeup and skincare company. It was founded by Sylvie Chantecaille, and each of her family members plays a role in the operation of the brand. The company focuses on using organic ingredients to produce a fresh and natural look. The company prides itself on using a high concentration of natural botanicals to create these looks. They’ve also created capsule collections which benefit endangered species.
For Harvey, his interest in makeup started when he was very young and he’s spent his life cultivating his talent. We spoke with him about joining Chantecaille eight years ago, working with the brand to introduce new products and which makeup trends will be popular this fall.
