These balloons are part of MARTIN CREED’s work No.202: Half the air in a given space. In this installation, participants walk through over 4,000 black balloons which are inflated to contain half of the air in the room. As you walk through the exhibit, you lose spatial awareness, and the piece encourages you to think about repetition and how we experience space. We had a great time with the exhibit (and putting the balloons back) and spoke with the curators of the POP art exhibition at the New Media Gallery. We’ll have that coming up on Episode 26 of Screen Girls On Air.
